There were minor adjustment made to create the 2002 model. A limited edition 300 Cobra R was produced this year and had a 5.4-liter, 32-valve engine with 385 horsepower. The Cobra R did not have air conditioning nor a backseat. The Cobra R was priced at $55,845 and sold out.

2000 Ford sold more than 200,000 Mustangs for the first time since 1989 for a total of 215,393 Mustangs sold.
